Programs
Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.
Program admission requirements
Children should be age-appropriate for a preschool program by following the same admission date of the child's home school district. (For example, children in the North East School District should follow May 31 as the admission date, those in Wattsburg School District follow August 31, etc.) Exceptions may be made by speaking to the Director about individual situations. Children should also be toilet-trained prior to the beginning of the school year.
Three-year-old program ( 3 hour day )
The three-year-old program is a child's first opportunity to experience school. Children learn "how to go to school", learn independent self-help skills, and social skills such as taking turns, sharing, and listening to others. Learning themes incorporate practice in fine and gross motor skills, songs, stories, and active learning. Basic preschool academics are learned and practiced throughout the year.
Four-year-old program ( 3 hour day )
The four-year-old program builds on basic preschool skills, with preparation for a successful transition to kindergarten. While social, self-help, and motor skills are all part of the day, a focus on academics takes a primary role. Children learn and practice letter recognition and sounds, phonemic awareness and pre-reading skills, language skills, number and math concepts, science, and learning about our world, through the learning themes of the year. Activities address all learning styles as well as provide practice in all learning domains. Activities in large-group and small-group allow for differentiation so all children can be successful.
Chapel
Chapel services are offered for the children as a part of the curriculum. The services are presented by the Pastor and the Christian Education staff throughout the year. The chapel services are short, age appropriate, interactive programs which allow the children to experience Christ's love for them. All families are welcome to attend these services.
